Max Toy x HAGA custom kaiju figures

Hi Max Toy Fans !
One of the cool things to come out of my recent trip to Shanghai was meeting many Chinese toy makers. One of them, called Haga , showed me his new figure called HooDoo.
Today, I’m happy to say I’ve painted x5 unique, customs of HooDoo and now offer them to you 😉
Now posted up here’s the direct links to our web store:
Painted with Monster Kolor paints and over mostly clear soft vinyl, but there’s a couple of Milky White vinyl ones too.
Thank you again for the support and supporting this new generation of Monster Toy makers 😉
==================
If you have not heard already, Whitney Kerr ( Kirby & Whitney of Rotofugi ) has past away after a courageous battle with cancer. I’m not very good at expressing my feelings ( and rarely do so online) but I wanted to say my family and I express our deepest condolences to Kirby & Laszlo and their family. Besides being early art toy / kaiju toys supporters ( from my super7 days) they both did not hesitate to help support Max Toys from day one. I’ll remember her quick, dry wit and no bullshit answers 😉
The family requests donations to the Whitney Kerr Memorial Fund (to be used for Laszlo’s education) in lieu of flowers:

Shanghai Toy Show 2018 Max Toy Booth CO2

I’m off to Shanghai, we have a booth( CO2 ) at this huge show called Shanghai Toy Show (STS). Our booth mates include Jay222 and Aaron Arel of UhOh Toys.

The prep for this was pretty grueling for me … before I started a fellow artist told me to prepare up to x500 pieces (!!) I mostly paint my figures, so there’s really no way I could do this … but i think I managed to paint a nice selection of micro runs ( pic above ) and some one offs.

I won’t be updating or posting at all while I’m gone because from China, because no Facebook / Instagram  ;-P

Well, you can if you do some tech stuff, but I just didn’t want to go thru all the steps, so I won’t  😉

And, if you buy anything from our site starting today, April 1st thru April 9th, we will not be shipping till April 10th ;-P

I’ll make a post once I get back, so wish me luck in bring back an empty suit case 😉

Kaiju vs Heroes Japanese American National Museum show 2018

This AWESOME image by the extraordinary Photographer Brian McCarty will be the signature image for the upcoming “Kaiju vs Heroes: Mark Nagata’s Journey through the World of Japanese Toys ” exhibit at the Japanese American National Museum in Los Angeles.

Here’s what Brian said about the image he took :

Shot for the Japanese American National Museum in Los Angeles, the photo celebrates the upcoming exhibition “Kaiju vs Heroes,” featuring Mark Nagata’s unrivalled collection of vintage Japanese toys. Born out of the cultural ashes of World War II, these distinctive soft vinyl figures became both a means for Japanese Americans to reconnect with their culture and an apt metaphor for postwar relations between the United States and Japan.

The exhibit opens on September 15th, 2018 and will run for about 6 months into 2019. We have various events etc planned so stay tuned for more info on the exhibit in the coming months.

By the way, if you don’t already know, please check out the important work Brian is doing for his War Toys project – https://wartoysproject.com/

You know I just make these silly toy collectibles …but, out in the real world people like Brian are actually making a difference for these kids caught in very tragic conditions.

Kaiju vs Mako – Guillermo Del Toro tribute show Gallery Nucleus Mark Nagata

Here’s my pencil (graphite and colored pencils) art “Kaiju vs Mako”, for this weekends curated exhibition by CHOGRIN, celebrating legendary director Guillermo Del Toro, called “In the Name of the Monster, the Robot, and the Bleeding Ghost” at Gallery Nucleus.

I chose to show Mako from Pacific Rim as more of a action superhero 😉 I guess I really wanted her to be like this in the film (haha) … Get on the galleries preview list .. some amazing art will be in the show.
