This particular show is only licensed Tsuburaya Productions characters and as with most things only for sale in Japan. Fear not, we will be releasing a similar Baltan set and new Ultraman figures soon for the USA !
Have two custom painted Kaiju TriPus in this weekends Clutter Holiday show. Please get on their mailing list and also check out the participating artists for your Holiday gifts (!)
and it’s that time of the year.. for the Top9 thingy … personally I have no idea how they calculate this stuff but here’s 2019’s image:
At least glad to see lots of Tsuburaya stuff made the listing ! As always, thank you, thank you for the continued support of Max Toys and my past exhibit “Kaiju Vs Heroes” at the Japanese American National Museum. I keep thinking I’m going to slow it down, but we’ve already got a lot of new projects for 2020 ( Including one super HUGE one that I can’t wait to reveal ! ) and a long term one that I think people won’t see coming … as with a lot of stuff I’m not putting all my eggs into one basket so no hints just yet π
So, after nearly 46 years after first receiving Bullmark Ultraman figures and Kaiju as Christmas gifts from Japan… the circle is almost complete ! It’s not a secret if you follow me on Instagram ( maxtoyco ), but finally we are about to debut the VERY first sofubi Ultraman figure for sale in the USA ! Fully licensed by Tsuburaya Productions Japan ! Now, you might be saying, “Hey, I been buying Bandai Ultraman figures for many years now !” But, technically those were not officially imported for sale in the USA. After a decades long legal battle ( you can google more about that ) Tsuburaya Productions, the only owner of the Ultraman license can now license the character worldwide. AS a life long Ultraman toy collector, we’ve been trying for many years to be able to make a official Ultraman figure for sale outside of Japan.. so this is a huge deal to me… like I said, circle complete !
First USA debut will be at the upcoming Designer Con ( Dcon ) , Max Toy Booth 630 ! First come, first served ! But, we may limit sales to one person. More photos as we get closer to the event !
Now on sale, our newest character, HOOTS the Owl ! Designed by Mark Nagata, sculpted by Makino-san of TTToys. This was formally in our GachaMaxx series, but now being released fully painted ! Available via our web store !
A peek at something painted up for the Unruly / Sideshow Collectibles booth for Dcon. Besides this cool custom, I’ve been cranking away on many other figures for upcoming shows … but some I can not show, just yet ! Will do my best to post them here.. but again Instagram is the best way to see what I’m up to !
Now Sold Out ! – This micro run of Kaiju Eyezon by Michael Devera was painted as a homage to the classic Marusan Godzilla blue vinyl with silver spray and painted red eyes. Sold out to Max Toy club members… sorry about that ! Next time we will post them up in our web store for others to have a chance at them .. but look for new Eyezon collabs soon !
Here’s a peek at something I’m working on with Joe Somers / Squibbles Ink ! Follow Joe’s Instagram or Max Toy for more info π Should make it’s debut at Dcon in November !
Kaiju Paint Party 2, will be held at the Design Festa Gallery (east) Harajuku, Tokyo, August 17-18th, 2019. The first day, for a small fee, you can paint a Max Toy blank, using a provided airbrush and paints. Plus watch famous Japanese Toy Makers paint in person ! Day 2, is an all out sales event with exclusives and customs for sale ! Here’s the Japanese flyer for the event :
And, here’s some of the customs I’m bring along to sell … !
I’ll be attending both days in person so see you soon in Tokyo !
Sofubi-man custom online only custom show will go live via the Max Toy web store on July 31, 2019 ! Stay tuned for peeks at amazing custom work by participating artist and also follow my Instagram ( @maxtoyco ) for pics too as we get closer to the event !
Kaiju Vs Heroes, my exhibit at the Japanese American National Museum in Los Angeles California closes July 7th, 2019. See over 300+ Kaiju toys from the Mark Nagata collection, take a VR tour of Nagata’s studio, play the Eyezon video game and see the short movie about Mark Nagata’s art and toys, “In the Clutches of Kaiju “ !
In addition, at the museum learn more about the internment of Japanese Americans during WW2 and the modern day repercussions.
Also, the past Kaiju Con featured a number of events that were videoed and have been posted up:
I’m still recovering from Kaiju Con 2019, but in a nutshell it far exceed my expectations ! Plus, the crazy thing is the tickets sold out at the door and they actually had to turn away people wanting to come into the show ! They could see the museum and of course the Kaiju vs Heroes show at least.
I was pulled in many directions, we had a booth, a signing with Gerald Okamura, a Paint Demo and Toy Talk also.
While I prefer to stay home and pet the cats … it’s also good to venture out and once I’m out, I do enjoy meeting fans and friends !
We also had Martial Arts Legend Gerald Okamura sign his newest figure release for excited fans !
And finally, participated in a Rare Toys Round table, hosted by Super Duper Jumbo Machinder collector, Tom Franck, with Justin Ishmael, Quang Le and Mark Nagata ! Video is up on YouTube but I believe the museum will also post it soon ( I’ll post up links when they do) Good times !
and finally I wish I had more time to talk to the many artists and vendors … but here’s a few …
Well, I’m sure I’m missing something but was a awesome convention and people kept asking if there will be another next year … all I can say is I hope so and I’m sure the museum will make a decision about it soon π
