Max Toy Kaiju Updates
Hi All ! Just a few updates most of which have been posted to my
Instagram (@maxtoyco ) !
Many thanks to Rotofugi for once again hosting my customs at their booth via SDCC 2016. Humbled to see they sold out π
Via Facebook friend, Edouard Jean Le Duc , this artwork with King Neogra was shown on Canadian TV ;-P
Story is at the 14:55 point – http://www.cbc.ca/player/play/728127043954
Sold Out ! Sorry about that folks, we only had x3 sets for sale and they went super fast. Ameri-Cat vs Bat-Cat. @shifty_toys customized the Bat-Cat and I have to say from the paint app to the custom cape by @bunnykftwr stunning work !!! We’re working on a new series so stay tuned and yes this time we’ll make more available π
And finally spent sometime filming stuff for a future project .. but that’s all I can say !
SDCC 2016 customs
Many thanks to Joe, Kirby and the Rotofugi crew, once again I will have some customs for sale at their booth – #5248 ! There’s only one of each (these are one of a kind !) and prices are as follows:
Clear Eyezon (with guts) will be available for $435, while the newer style custom Kaiju Eyezon will be $350. A glow in the dark Saikobi is $375, and finally, a mini Kaiju Tripus will be available for $135. All prices are sales tax included.
Let me say, that Joe, Kirby & Whitney are hands down my favorite store/gallery but more importantly, just really good people. If only other “toy” folks and artists I deal with were like this, well, the toy world would be perfect π Please take the time to stop by their booth and buy something (doesn’t have to be my customs) to show your support.
While I won’t be at this years SDCC, we’re working on something for later this yearΒ π
SDCC 2015
So this was the year I wasn’t going to SDCC aka Comic Con … the Max Boy really wanted to go so who am I to stand in the way of the next generation of collectors ? Not having luck in the ticket pool, toy friends got us in ! It was as usual an onslaught of everything ! I’ve been going since the late 80s, so I’ve seen the convention transform into what it is today. In my opinion, not really my cup of tea, I miss the old school dealers and actual comic sellers, but time marches on.
(l to r) Ed, Joe, Mark & Kirby
Once again the fine folks at Squibbles Ink / Rotofugi hosted several of my customs (which sold out). Do yourself a favor and check out Rotofugi store online: http://www.rotofugi.com/home
Personally I don’t really find much at these conventions anymore … I take that back, I find LOTS of things I’d want … like a $70,000 Jack Kirby piece of art (!) Ha ! … not in this lifetime ;-P
Max and I do take our annual YuGiOh card picture, which is free … and honestly the best thing i could get from the convention π
So the first Galaxy Pup I did, was stolen, so i quickly painted up another and brought it down for artist Martin Hsu’s booth … luckily it sold within minutes π
Also a big Thank You to Mike Minjares for all his help and our annual lunch with Honda and Andrew.
So basically I told Max I’d buy him whatever he wanted, but I’m not going to wait in any lines or go to one place to get a coupon, only to return to another place to MAYBE get a toy. He agreed nothing is worth that much trouble… plus he noted everything ends up on Ebay .. haha … I’m glad he’s not buying into the hype.
Max found plenty to buy regardless, so we didn’t return empty handed for sure. At the end of the day, I turned to him and asked if he’d like to come back next year … there was a slight pause … and he faintly said .. yes ! I guess i don’t have a choice … 2016 .. ugh !

Custom Kaiju by Mark Nagata
Just posted up in the Max Toy web store, a couple of custom painted figures by Mark Nagata ! Using his Galaxy style applied to a Kaiju Negora and Alien Xam ( thats Max spelled backwards ! ). Both feature stars, galaxies and more spacey details …plus glitter coatings ! Both are one of a kind figures π Using Monster Kolor paints, there is a depth of color that pictures can not replicate .. you will be amazed in person π
Coming up, Comic Con custom pictures will post soon and will be available via Squibbles Ink / Rotofugi booth #5248 and a Space Dragon Dog for artist Martin Hsu booth #4530.
