Kaiju Vs Heroes, my exhibit at the Japanese American National Museum in Los Angeles California closes July 7th, 2019. See over 300+ Kaiju toys from the Mark Nagata collection, take a VR tour of Nagata’s studio, play the Eyezon video game and see the short movie about Mark Nagata’s art and toys, “In the Clutches of Kaiju “ !
In addition, at the museum learn more about the internment of Japanese Americans during WW2 and the modern day repercussions.
Also, the past Kaiju Con featured a number of events that were videoed and have been posted up:
I’m still recovering from Kaiju Con 2019, but in a nutshell it far exceed my expectations ! Plus, the crazy thing is the tickets sold out at the door and they actually had to turn away people wanting to come into the show ! They could see the museum and of course the Kaiju vs Heroes show at least.
I was pulled in many directions, we had a booth, a signing with Gerald Okamura, a Paint Demo and Toy Talk also.
While I prefer to stay home and pet the cats … it’s also good to venture out and once I’m out, I do enjoy meeting fans and friends !
We also had Martial Arts Legend Gerald Okamura sign his newest figure release for excited fans !
And finally, participated in a Rare Toys Round table, hosted by Super Duper Jumbo Machinder collector, Tom Franck, with Justin Ishmael, Quang Le and Mark Nagata ! Video is up on YouTube but I believe the museum will also post it soon ( I’ll post up links when they do) Good times !
and finally I wish I had more time to talk to the many artists and vendors … but here’s a few …
Well, I’m sure I’m missing something but was a awesome convention and people kept asking if there will be another next year … all I can say is I hope so and I’m sure the museum will make a decision about it soon π
Saturday, June 15th, 2019 at the Japanese American National Museum in Los Angeles, California, Max Toys and Mark Nagata will have a table and participate in a painting demo and rare toy talk round table ! And, at 1pm come meet the Legendary Martial Artist from many movies and TV appearances Man Of Many Weapons Gerald Okamura at the Max Toy table, 1pm ! Details below !
See the museums web site for full details and a list of dealers and other special events during Kaiju Con ! Plus, it’s a great time to visit, “Kaiju vs Heroes” exhibit before it’s 10 month long run comes to an end on July 7th, 2019.
Some of our exclusives and customs below we are bringing to Kaiju Con !!!
There’s more but I don’t have the energy to post more ;-P See you there and any stuff that doesn’t sell I’ll post up next week π
These stunning FrankenMerrick soft vinyl figures are made by Miscreation Toys / Jeremi Rimel. The details are super impressive and to be honest the challenge for me was to paint them to show off these details but not lose the anatomy or over all look of the figure ( if that makes sense). I had great fun with each and as you see, there are now 3 different versions in our web store ! First up, is FrankenMerrick in his Black and White movie appearance ( as imagined !)
The second one, is FrankenMerrick in a more colorful mood …
Oops, I’m way behind on updates and sorry to say most of the items below have sold out ;-( Best way to keep up to date on Max Toy stuff is via my instagram : maxtoyco
I’ll just dump all the images below in no particular order ….
Check out the February 2019 issue of KORE, nice article by Mae Hamilton about myself and “Kaiju vs Heroes” exhibit. Look for it on newsstands in physical form as well !
My exhibit, “Kaiju vs Heroes”, has been extended thru July 7th, 2019 at the Japanese American National Museum !!!
From the museums Press release: Kaiju vs Heroes: Mark Nagataβs Journey through the World of Japanese Toys, which features hundreds of contemporary and vintage Japanese vinyl toys, has been extended on view at the Japanese American National Museum through July 7, 2019. The exhibition is included in regular admission to the museum. In conjunction with the exhibitionβs extension, the museum will host a day-long separately ticketed Kaiju-Con on June 15, 2019.
Super honored by the awesome reception this exhibit has received from both Kaiju fans and non Kaiju fans ! More importantly, the exhibit has allowed me the chance to reflect upon my Japanese American heritage and connect with many diverse people who were not aware of the internment of Japanese Americans during World War 2. I’m grateful that by extending the exhibit thru July 7th, 2019, many more will not only see a super fun exhibit but also learn more about the internment and it’s affects on Japanese Americans. And, yes, there will be a Kaiju Con … check out their link for more info !!
