Kaiju Eyezon & Trainwreck movie !!

This is weird and funny … so Kaiju Eyezon is waaayyy in the background in this new movie called Trainwreck !

Trainwreck_eyezon_72

Thanks to good buddy, the super talented Jimbo Matison – http://jimbomatison.com – who helped dress the set in this scene as well as did the interior design for the bar it takes place in. Jimbo and I go way back, in fact part of my Japanese toy collection was in his Chronicle book, So Crazy Japanese Toys ! ( http://www.chroniclebooks.com/titles/so-crazy-japanese-toys.html ) and he’s the guy who inspired me to come up with a Japanese toy magazine … not to mention making me “think” outside the box on my projects. A true renaissance man !

MOAH museum show 2015

MOAH_show2015Web

I have a several versions of Kaiju Eyezon toys and art work in this upcoming museum show at MOAH – Museum of Art & History, in Lancaster, California. There’s a bunch of artists in it and you can get more details on a Vip opening this Friday via their web site: http://www.lancastermoah.org

Also have a small run of hand painted mini Alien Argus in the museum store. Not sure if they will be posted online or not, but maybe send them an email if you have interest.

Yes, Art Toys or in this case, Kaiju toys in a museumย  ๐Ÿ˜‰

SDCC 2015

So this was the year I wasn’t going to SDCC aka Comic Con … the Max Boy really wanted to go so who am I to stand in the way of the next generation of collectors ? Not having luck in the ticket pool, toy friends got us in ! It was as usual an onslaught of everything ! I’ve been going since the late 80s, so I’ve seen the convention transform into what it is today. In my opinion, not really my cup of tea, I miss the old school dealers and actual comic sellers, but time marches on.

Once again the fine folks at Squibbles Ink / Rotofugi hosted several of my customs (which sold out). Do yourself a favor and check out Rotofugi store online: http://www.rotofugi.com/home

Card2015

Personally I don’t really find much at these conventions anymore … I take that back, I find LOTS of things I’d want … like a $70,000 Jack Kirby piece of art (!) Ha ! … not in this lifetime ;-P

Max and I do take our annual YuGiOh card picture, which is free … and honestly the best thing i could get from the convention ๐Ÿ™‚

HsuBooth72

So the first Galaxy Pup I did, was stolen, so i quickly painted up another and brought it down for artist Martin Hsu’s booth … luckily it sold within minutes ๐Ÿ˜‰

Also a big Thank You to Mike Minjares for all his help and our annual lunch with Honda and Andrew.

So basically I told Max I’d buy him whatever he wanted, but I’m not going to wait in any lines or go to one place to get a coupon, only to return to another place to MAYBE get a toy. He agreed nothing is worth that much trouble… plus he noted everything ends up on Ebay .. haha … I’m glad he’s not buying into the hype.

Max found plenty to buy regardless, so we didn’t return empty handed for sure. At the end of the day, I turned to him and asked if he’d like to come back next year … there was a slight pause … and he faintly said .. yes ! I guess i don’t have a choice … 2016 .. ugh !

And last but not least, the final Hello Kitty Kaiju figure is now on sale at the Japanese American National Museum (http://www.janm.org ) store. There was a limited release online but they are now sold out. However, you can buy one in person still but one per person. No phone orders or email saves, sorry to say. Its while supplies last and this being the last weekend of the Hello Kitty 40th Anniversary show, I don’t expect them to last too long. I wanted to take a moment to not only thank the Fans for buying this figure but to Sanrio, Jamie at JapanLA and to Maria Kwong at JANM for their help in making this possible. Many thanks to Makino-san for the perfect sculpt, to Shimizu-san in Tokyo for casting all the vinyl pieces, to the Maruyama Brothers for hand painting each one in Japan and to Yo-san the Man in Japan for coordinating all the production. In order to make one toy there are many people who do their part, so you can have something to collect. So the next time you look at one of our toys or even a toy from Target, just remember that there are humans and hard work behind them ๐Ÿ˜‰
